BOSS Basketball

The coaches

Three of the four played at the University of Maine.

Sandi Carver

Maine Basketball Hall of Fame, 2018

Sandi grew up playing sports of all kinds in Jonesport-Beals and spent her summers traveling with AAU basketball and ASA softball teams. She led Jonesport-Beals to its first girls’ state title.

She played four years at the University of Maine under Joanne Palombo-McAllie, and it is to Coach McAllie’s credit that “Practice Makes Permanent” became ingrained in her. Her belief in proper technique, the time it takes to build permanence, and the importance of repetition in fast-paced sports is core to the BOSS program.

Sandi was inducted into the Maine Basketball Hall of Fame in 2018. Her vision is to instill a love of solid fundamental basketball in young players while building a generation of strong and responsible advocates for sportsmanship and community.

Kristi Carver-Kenney

Kristi grew up in a sports-minded family and played seasonal athletics year-round through school. She respects and loves other sports, but basketball was and has remained her favorite.

She played volleyball at the University of Maine while earning her bachelor’s degree, and later returned for a master’s degree in education. Team sports honed her competitive spirit and her ability to persevere through frustration and disappointment, and taught her teamwork, respect, gratitude and humility.

Kristi has worked with young people as a camp counselor, coach, teacher and mother.

Tricia Carver

Tricia grew up wanting to be exactly like her two older sisters, so playing and competing were part of her from as early as she can remember. She was a three-sport athlete through grammar and high school, spent summers at training, sports camps and AAU tournaments, and played volleyball at the University of Maine.

She taught middle school for three years and spent five years as a full-time youth minister before turning to coaching. Tricia believes in building a growth mindset through sport, and that to know how to “win”, you have to know well how to “lose”.

Matt Smith

Inspired by the coaches, role models and mentors he has worked with, Matt took up coaching as a way to give back. He has coached soccer, baseball, softball and basketball teams.

He enjoys helping kids reach their individual and team goals. With an emphasis on building skills in a fun environment, he stresses a positive attitude and maximum effort.
